About Caribe Horse
A family-run rescue and ethical riding project on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast, led by Oriana and Jimmy since 2007.
Caribe Horse started in Cocles in 2007 as a horse rescue, not a tour company. Every horse you can ride today came through that door first: found in neglect or abandonment, given time and space to recover, and only ever invited back into gentle work once ready.
It's still run that way today, by Oriana and Jimmy, on the same stretch of Caribbean coast. Tours came later, and they exist to fund the rescue, not the other way around: a horse earns a place on a guided ride once it's ready, never before.
How we work
We train and handle every horse with natural horsemanship: clear communication, patience and positive reinforcement instead of force. It's slower than breaking a horse in, and it's the only method we use.
Horses that recover enough to carry a rider are carefully matched to the ride and to the person on their back. The ones that don't are simply retired here, cared for for the rest of their lives, the same as the ones that do.
